As students say goodbye to the school year, the fans and players of the Texas Rangers say goodbye to their current ball park, Globe Life Park in Arlington.
The construction of, Globe Life Field, the future home for the Rangers began in fall of 2017 and will finish in 2020.
“I am super excited to see a new home for the Rangers. It will be sad to see the other one go but this one looks really cool and I can’t wait.” freshman Riley Davis said.
The total cost of the stadium is estimated at 1.1 billion dollars. This is the second most expensive ballpark in the MLB, the most expensive is Yankee stadium which cost 1.6 billion. The first game played at the new field will be on March, 23 2020 against the St. Louis Cardinals in an exhibition game.
The Rangers didn’t decide to build a completely new stadium for nothing. The stadium will have air conditioning and a retractable roof, so the heat and rain will have no effect on enjoying a nice day at the ballpark. Another new feature is that the field will be made out of turf rather than grass. Although one negative about this field is it will hold 9,000 less people.
“Having all these new features of the field is super nice and we’re very fortunate to have it, although it seats 9,000 less, I don’t think that’ll be much of an issue unless we go to the playoffs.” sophomore Jackson Dietz said.
The Rangers won’t be using Globe Life Park anymore, but the stadium will be made into a football field and will be home of an XFL team.
“I feel like it should just be still be used as a baseball field and not a completely new field for a sport that's not very relevant as of right now” said freshman Parker Thomas.
