A "SMASHING" Good Time

Story by Nick Jones

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has become a worldwide phenomenon, attracting millions of players to compete against each other, so it didn’t take long for the Boyd Esports team to pick up this trend.

“Smash is a really popular game,” Esports club president Zack Venable said. “It’s fun because of the diversity of the characters and stages you can play. Smash is just fun, and I think that it could really draw people into gaming with it being so popular.”

Describing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as popular is quite an understatement. Within 11 days of its release, more than three million copies of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate were sold. According to IGN, it is one of the fastest selling video games of all time.

“The cool thing about Smash is that everyone can play it,” sophomore Josh Balasy said. “It offers healthy competition between students, without actually breaking any friendships. While it is important to take downtime, I think that students playing against each other can make their friendships stronger, and bring people together.”

While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is fun, IGN advises gamers to put down the controllers once in a while, and enjoy the outdoors with friends and family.
