The McKinney Boyd Baseball Broncos have made the playoffs for back to back years and are already into the second round in 2019. They finished the season with a 10-4 district record and 21-10 overall. It was a very impressive season and marks the beginning of a great playoff run.
In the first round, the Broncos took on Rowlett High School in a three game series. Chad Brown started the first game and lead the way with a complete game shutout and a three run home run to score the only runs of the game. The Broncos went on to win 3-0.
Jack Hagan took the mound in game two and pitched six solid innings, however when the seventh inning came, he struggled. Chase Peterson came in and closed the game off with a double play. Tyler Collins led the offense hitting a home run, triple, and double, only a single off from the cycle, while Jack Brinley followed up with two doubles. A 6-5 victory advanced the Broncos on to the next round.
Rockwall Heath will be the next challenge for the Broncos as they have an overpowering offense and great pitching to back it up. They took the series after 3 games, losing the first but winning the next two, outscoring them 32-2 over that span.
The first game between these two teams will take place on Thursday at 7:30 on Heath’s home field. Friday will bring the game to McKinney Boyd and the Saturday game to Jesuit.
“We always stay locked in with high energy which gets in the other teams head. We do the little things right which is one reason for our success,” junior first baseman Beau Brewer said.
This is certainly one of Boyd’s top baseball teams since the school opened and this special talent will carry the team, we hope, all the way to state.
