The McKinney Boyd Broncos are in full swing for the 2019 baseball season with a familiar face on the field, new Coach Dylan Neal.
Neal is a former Bronco baseball player, and he loved the school so much he returned to coach
it. “It is great being a coach and being able to coach players what I was what taught when I was a student. It’s pretty cool,” Neal said.
Players are excited to begin play, and it’s quite an honor to be on the high school level for a sport - to compete and follow your passion.
“It’s cool to like, play for a team you’ve always wanted to play for, and actually like fulfilling playing for the team. It’s nice, and I’m proud of myself,” freshman Riley Davis said.
The regular season is just around the corner, but the Broncos started scrimmages earlier in the month.
The freshman team is 2-1 in their scrimmages with wins over the McKinney North Bulldogs and the Lake Highlands Wildcats, and a loss to Lake Highlands in a double header. They scrimmage again today, and start their regular season Tuesday, Feb. 19 against Frisco Liberty at Allen High School.
The junior varsity team is 2-2-1 in their scrimmages. Their next game at home is Thursday, March 7 against Colleyville Heritage at 2 p.m. They also start their regular season on the road.
The varsity team is 3-2 in their scrimmages and their next game starts the regular season on Monday, Feb. 18 against JJ Pearce at 3:30 p.m.
