Styling and profiling. Shoes seem to be getting very popular in this generation. The prices are higher, there are more brands, the quality is better, and there is more variety.
“Jordans, Adidas, and Nike’s...they’re popular brands, everyone wears them at school,” freshman Caiton Broussard said.
As always, in the line of fashion, there are always opinions and preferences.
“I don’t like Puma and Balenciaga.... they’re ugly,” Broussard said. It is very common for people to like the brand name but dislike certain types of shoes.
“I don’t like Sketchers [or] New Balances. I don’t like those big bulky Balenciagas. I like the sock ones,” freshman Isaiah White said.
Some people will spend hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars on shoes just because of the brand and not the quality. For example, some of Yeezy’s shirts are quite plain but because they’re so popular and made by the rapper Kanye West, they are in more demand. A lot of brands are booming because of the face of the brand. When it comes to fashion and branding, it’s all about who is representing it.
“The quality and the brand [make the shoe],” Broussard added.
“Making shoes expensive makes them good,” White said.
Some customers believe that shoes have been popular for decades should be collected like trophies. “I think they’re nice. You should collect them instead of wearing them a lot,” White said.
McKinney Boyd students use different ways to express themselves. One thing is certain: some take their shoes seriously.
